The paper deals with the criticism launched by Kant and Hume against materialist theories of the mind. Although this criticism does not have a prominent status in their works, it provides a number of insights into the relationship between their theories of mind. Both agree in their attempt to provide one single argument against both materialism and immaterialism at the same time, apparently dissatisfied with the view that perceptions are attributes that inhere in substances, no matter if material or immaterial. The paper discusses these attempts in detail and concludes by asking whether these similarities remain on a superficial level and are surpassed by more fundamental differences.
